At first that seems like a huge sum but when you factor everything in it makes sense. By the looks of it, the money seems well spent.
Additionally, at first one might think that using AA batteries was a bad decision but in reality by doing that they are just giving you more options. You can easily buy re-chargeable batteries and it would be the same as if the controller was a re-chargeable battery pack or you can buy disposable batteries in a pinch and use those. Also can't you use a mini USB cord and make the controller wired?
