I would say no one cares if another device can do something if that device is not getting support. The difference will always be that the PSeye is just another add on while MS has made kinect center to their console experience. Its the same as Nintendo making the Wiimote central to the Wii. When developers think about features, they cost them just like anything else. Costing a feature you know will be used because everyone has the device is totally different when that info is unknown. I expect to see a lot of little kinect features that probably can be duplcated using the PSeye but not included for the PSeye because its just another add on. |
Tis true, a device is only as good as its support thus the problem with the Vita or the Move. The Kinect is not the center of the experience its an add on just the same. Xbox Live is the center of the console experience much like PSN is for the Playstation console. The Wiimote was central to the Wii but before the two of those the Eyetoy existed. Devs are using the Kinect not because it is special but because MS paid them. Ryse was supposed to prove once and for all the power of the Kinect, but alas the Kinect is a fallible device just as Sony said it was ( no different from the Eyetoy) and Ryse is now a fullscale game because of their failure to prove its value outside of Dance Central and that is a really fun franchise because I love to dance.
Theres nothing for the PSEye to replicate besides for the multimedia screen swapping, thats about it. Where it matters for the game the PSEye coupled with the move was the remedy, but as you said before, its about the content coming in. No matter how good the tech its void overshadows the quality of the technology.
