FPS is to the cardbox age of VG what Shmup were to its golden age : an over represented genre.
There you have the difference.
What's good with pokemon is that it's an easy RPG, it can be played by anyone and despite their experience in VG.
Pokemon is the almost only possible start with RPG, but Call of Duty has a lot of competitors wich has either a (better) storyline or a better competitive multiplayer.
Pokemon is the very first game of a lot of people, the one that made them play video games.
