Pikmin Origins Theory
I've finalised this theory through my head a many multiple amount of times and here is what I have come up with.
We all know that Miyamoto has stated that humans are extinct, well technically they are but my theory is that Hocotatians and Koppaite's are both descendants of current human beings. Now before you conclude this as being farfetched, assume that this occurs; on Planet Earth some kind of extinction event is approaching, whether it be a meteorite, extreme climate change etc. Human beings are likely at a stage of true technical advancement and although cannot save Earth, many evacuation programmes send who they consider can benefit the human race when settling on new planets. Along with this many fauna and flora are transported with the humans. Now let's say many of the Earth spaceships get separated so they are forced to settle on different planets but propose that Hocotate and Koppai have a special connection in inhabitants of both came from the same group of vessels but at choice chose to settle separately. Due to high gravity and a lack of oxygen both Hocotatians and Koppaites eventually evolved respiratory systems to cope with the atmosphere and shrunk each generation to cope with intense gravity, they also became more squat so the centre of mass was spread more evenly.
While this happened I think a mass extinction also happened, wiping out all but insects and plants. The plant life flourished, causing Earth to have an atmosphere of largely oxygen which also helped the insects to evolve and dominate the Earth. When Olimar lands on Earth for the first time, Earth is at a stage of a new wave a flourishing animal type. Starting from life on land it was amphibians, then reptiles, then mammals and now in the future insects.
I then feel that Pikmin 4 could have a new depth in storyline, perhaps the Hocotatians and Koppaites eventually discover the secrets of their human ancestors which were likely lost through time. And will Pikmin eventually become independent and rule Earth? We'll see.
