Nintendo already has people locked into their particular ecosystem, and their own software is the key.

Keep banging that drum, Osc. Maybe one day you'll learn the rhythm.

Nintendo have locked people in? I guess that's why we are seeing Wii numbers for the Wii U.

Seriously though, why would you choose the Wii U version of a game if you can play the PS4 & X1 versions on multiple devices?

At least I was able to transfer all my Wii shop games from my Wii to Wii U day one with no extra charge.  Also, people don't buy Nintendo systems for third party games.  People buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games.

Nintendo would make more money if they could also sell plenty of third party games. Wouldn't the Wii U be in a better position if all the third party games went there as well? Why give publishers more reasons not to go there? Also, people are already annoyed with the Wii U getting bad versions of games. This would be yet another mark against the Nintendo version of a game.

The appeal of cross-platform gaming is still wholly untested, however. Why should Nintendo cannibalize their hardware environment just to go for something totally unproven (which they've already done anyway, plunking their handheld on the 3D craze and their console on the tablet craze). Especially when we all know that nothing Nintendo does will get them actual third party support, short of hostile takeovers of Sony and Microsoft.
