Western RPGs are doing fine; JRPGs, on the other hand, have become very much a niche product (outside of their home country of Japan, of course).

what? The golden time for the western produced RPGs were the 80s, they are in a two-decades-long decline. The situation is so bad, that they started to produce the games for console too, to make up for the lost sales on PC. That worked for Skyrim at least. But you don't have the immense number of games that were produced in the 80s.

Japanese produced RPGs are doing not too bad on handhelds. There is a lot of them. Not all comes to the west though.

I'm sorry, but....lol wut?  Is this a joke?  For a 3rd-party developer, releasing a game on multiple platforms is a sign of strength, not weakness.

It's also a sign that you can't obtain the sales you need by focusing on one platform, so you have divert time, resources, etc. in multiple platforms because you're unable to make money otherwise

His statement really isn't along those lines though.

Hmmm... sounds an awful lot like Square when they ported FFXIII to the 360 after releasing every previous flagship FF title exclusively on one console only, doesn't it?

We know the product suffered because of the port, but we know the port was done because Microsoft paid for it.

Ahhhh, the old "FFXIII would have been SOOOO much better had it stayed PS3 exclusive!!!" argument.  Classic.

I presume that goes for games like FFXIII-2 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance as well?  Not to mention the upcoming KHIII which is no longer exclusive to the PS brand... I'm sure they'll be some reviews criticizing the game and saying the graphics and cutscenes would have been way better if it were a PS4 exclusive when it comes out.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
