About rumble making FPS feel more "real": I never remember feeling a rifle rumbling, and even the first time I used an assault rifle during military service (back then Italy still used 7.62 caliber, only a batallion of my parachutist brigade was already evaluating 5.56 rifles), both noise (at least outdoors) and recoil were less than I expected (although during an urban combat simulation, inside a small room the noise once happened to be a lot louder than I expected and my ears rang for days ).
