why did people think this? what am i missing? Was it just blind optismism? they still have US

Nobody thought it would do huge numbers but I expected it would be about 50k and Wii U 10k in Europe. 

i never said big numbers, but  even the numbers you gave are a bit much IMHO.

My thinking was Japan boosted it to over 20k and Pikmin sold close to 100k, I know its more popular there but I still figured half of that was feasible.
