People make this argument all the time but what is the difference between this an a MMO. People that play multiplayer for the majority of their gaming falls under this as well. The thing is that these outages are more rare now the your lights going out and I have had my lights go out more than I have experience an internet outage just this year alone. If more games depend on the net then it means companies will be expected to keep things running smoothly just like your electricty. MP only type of games have been in the market and going strong for a while now so going all online is only the next step. We already see a lot of MP only games coming to the X1 and PS4 and I expect to see more as time move on. Because of this change, I see cloud computing adoption going a lot faster than I expected. Maybe in 2 years we will see a lot of games using it for all types of purposes. |
You know, I've jsut spent about 3 minutes trying to come up with a good reply, you are right. I don't disagree with you, however I still think dependency on anything is bad. You might not have a big outage but every now and then my internet just fails or my router needs a reboot. If a game is dependent on the Cloud, will the game stop working until I connect again? Even if it's a single player game? Cloud enhancement/gaming should be restricted to MMO and online portions of games only, due to the fact you need a connection to play anyway.
Hmm, pie.
