This isn't really true. Earthbound isn't extremely rare. It's expensive because people are willing to pay the ridiculous asking price, but not extremely rare. Other than "any game not in print" it's not even rare, because I'd have more choices on who to purchase Earthbound from on Ebay any day of the week than most sought after games. It's not even uncommon.
If you were to go on Ebay and compare the amount of available copies for purchase of games such as Vanguard Bandits, Breath of Fire 4, Threads of Fate, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4, etc, those games have less availability to purchase than Earthbound, so would you consider those "rare." Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4 is only one page and it's the SNES, PSX, and Sega Saturn versions combined. Earthbound has 10 pages, three of which is the game for SNES. I have Ebay at 50 listings per page as well.
Now forget the above paragraphs because I'm only trying to point out that these games are all common and easy to purchase if one wants them, and the fact that Earthbound is more common, albeit more expensive, then every game should count for the console right? No, and that's the point I'm getting at.
