For once I agree with you. I tend to value Famitsu scores more than most people on the net. Most people actually laugh at Famitsu, pointing at certain reviews, but wave me off when I mentino IGN's God Hand review.
Either way, Famitsu adds points for games with large userbases. This is commonly seen as giving games false scores for hype, but its not the case. In actuality, games with huge fanbases are reviewed as if the reviewer was a member of that fanbase. You see it all the time in american journalism as well. It's called reviewer tilt. However, in Famitsu that tilt is an artificial score that is added to account for the fandom and userbase of a game.
Famitsu is very much a numbers magazine. Your basically getting 4 different reviews averaged, so I feel that the reviews average funny sometimes, as with Lair, and Metroid Prime, but the benefit to the consumer is you get a broad range of opinions from one source, making it, in my book at least, a worthy indicator.
If 4 people like the game enough to give it 4 9/10's, then it has to have something going for it.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
