Maybe its me but I only had a few issues with MS original plan.
MS wanted to make the X1 a digital console. They stated that you will be able to, resell, trade, gift and share your digital collection. I could not find any fault in this strategy. Currently you cannot do any of this with the current systems that sell digital content.
Yes there was concessions that were needed to go this route. The only big issue I believe people had with their original policy is that for physical disk based games people wanted the old standard solution. MS wanted to go full digital and that was their problem. They designed the X1 for full online and digital and they wanted to leave the physical market alone.
MS inability to tout what they wanted to do and how those online features are a plus to gamers was one of their problems. Already most people purchase their PC games online. The consoles will be the same. Sony, MS and even Nintendo have online stores. Getting your games on a physical disk is becoming the minority system.
To answer the topic, do I trust MS, HELL NO. I never trusted MS but then again I do not trust Sony or Nintendo. I know what drives them and its not always the gamers needs or wants. This is why competition is needed in this space. It shapes all of these companies because once one of them gets to strong, they go more corporate. Nintendo did this in the 80s, Sony had their turn before the 360 stole some thunder. Now MS had to eat humble pie because they got a little to ahead of themselves.
So this article states what if MS goes back to their original DRM plan. The problem with what Ifs is that you can make them for any company. Competition keeps all these companies honest, not some hypothetical what if. The reason MS will not go back is because Sony and Nintendo are still in the market!!
