None of the Halo's ever reached the level of depth that the book provided until Halo 4. Of course they were good games but storywise were pretty weak. Masterchief had zero dimensions not any character development. He was just captain run and gun. Theres nothing emotion they could've done while Bungie was at the helm. When Microsoft made 343 they literally comissioned the best of the best in the industry to come together for a game with one of the largest budgets I've ever seen.

Halo Reach, just showed us characters that had potential but very little depth. they talked a bit of shit trying to play off the Gears of comrade linguistics while played certain roles and then died one after the other in predictable fashion. It couldn't even say their deaths were abrupt, I knew they were mostly coming. I didnt get Bungies concept of a last stand when I was trying to survive either. If you want me to feel the emotion you must force me to do something I do not want to do or see something I don't want to see. In the Last of Us....you get this in the first thirty minutes of the prologue of the game, seeing something you just are not emotionally ready for and then it hits you like a ton of bricks and then the game just goes on.

Halo 4, I can't say was one of the most engrossing game I have played because I grew up on storybased JRPG's with emotional stories and they tried very hard to touch us in Halo 4. A very valiant effort. It was a huge leap for what Halo is and the progression was done well enough. Its got me waiting for Halo 5 big time.

I haven't read any of the Halo books.  Any recommendations, or order I should read them in?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
