eh, playstation honchos said that they wouldn't be taking a major loss on ps4, implying that they WOULD be taking at least some kind of loss.
When you look at the specs, there's not a whole lot that's more expensive in the box, possibly 40-50$ more for the ram, better gpu/cpu, better bluray drive.
So if Sony is going to be losing in the range of 50-100$ per console, actually costing 450-500$, and the equal components are 50-100$ more than xb1, then that would mean that xb1 without the kinect 2 would be costing roughly 450-500$, meaning either losing 50 or breaking even.
It all depends how much kinect is costing them.
To make it relative, the kinect sdk, which includes one beta kinect and one full kinect, is 500$...so it's likely costing ms between 70-150$ per unit.
