What happens to the console race if Microsoft actually drops the price of the Xbox One to $400 without changing any features of the console itself. In otherwords, no loss of Kinect, it still comes packed-in.
Let's discuss the hypothetical, that today Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One will be priced at $400, and adjusted accordingly in other markets. What do you think of this move?

Then it tells me that they were willing to have my arms off at $500

I don't understand this at all.

it means, if they can make a profit at $400, them selling it at $500 would be taking the mick.....

They're selling it at a profit at $500, according to some sources. Whether they are for sure or not is unknown.
If they sold it at $400, more than likely they would be selling it at a loss, otherwise I would have thought they would have been selling it at $400 to begin with. A profit is a profit, doesn't matter if it's 1¢ or $1. However, if I'm selling them for 1¢ profit, it'll take 100 of them before I make that $1 profit.
Likewise, it has been suggested that Sony is either selling the PS4 at a profit, a slight profit, or no profit, depending on whose analysis you subscribe to.
