Like I said above, that would mean that it took PS4 a longer time to sell out than it should have taken. It actually works against people's arguments.

hmm i think im followin you but alsoconfusing myself this morning.  I'm sure some people have cancelled orders tho but its not some large number that people are saying.

Let me put it like this, in order of timing (earliest to latest):

1. E3. MS have messed up. Everyone pre-orders PS4.

2. MS do a 180. 

3. PS4 orders are cancelled in favor of One

4. PS4 sells out on Amazon

If #2 had not happened, PS4 would've sold out even earlier, not later if we go with your and other people's argument. This also means that PS4 did indeed sell out for real, since it sold out after MS's 180.

 

I agree if #2 didnt happen it would have sold out earlier.  and i think thats what happend.  Cancelled orders are already accounted for. When MS did the reversal, some cancelled the ps4 order and it was scooped up by someone else right away. Then the system sold out.  People also may have cancelled after they were sold out and this could be for any reason, including financial. BUT I just dont see it as a significant number.
