Comics are natorious for re-telling and re-imagining of charactes and universes.  We have had versions of Superman where he lands in Soviet Russia. Plus its not like we havent seen superman fight in a city before levaing destruction all around.  Just watch some fight scenes from any of the Animated Series or new DC cartoon movies.   Obiously nothing to the scale of this movie but if thats your one negative I think its weak to not call it a superman movie.  If anything the only thing wrong with movie when compared to source material is that Clark looks way too cool.  I like my Clark Kent a bit more nerdy can clean cut but hey I am not going to deny its a Superman movie because of that.

On a movie level it had problems, like the weak love story and a few plot holes but I think its a solid start for a Movie I never thought I would actually be able to see on the big screen.  I dont mind this Superman but the chemistry he has with Batman must be brilliant.

But this isn't a comic, nor is it a cartoon. It's a full blown live action movie, and you can't do live action movies like you do cartoons. Just look at the Dark Knight Trilogy; those flicks weren't treated as cartoons, and benefited for it. And look at ALL the other super hero movies; they've moved away from the cartoonish (yellow spandex anyone?) and are better for it. The destruction in Man of Steel embraced the cartoonish.

And I'm not NOT calling this a Superman movie, I'm calling it a bad Superman movie. Had it been another kind of movie it would have been cool, but it just doesn't suit a realistic "darker" superman. He killed THOUSANDS of people, and let another TEN OF THOUSANDS die. Does that really sound like sups?

And I totally agree that the chemistry has to be absolutely perfect between sups and bats, and that's one of the things that has me worried. How much chemistry were there really between folks in MoS? Not all that much. I don't think the director can deliver that.

To be fair you said "it had nothing to do with superman."  and I think thats not true at all.  You were complaining about the destruction because it was away from source matieral not because it wasn't realistic.  Thats what I was arguing against.  As for live action movies not doing it like they do with cartoons, well you should watch Avengers. Avengers Universe takes place in a very "cartoon" world.  I know this is not Avengers but its also not TDK.  You can't expect the MoS universe to be as real as TDK one.

If they don't mention the destruction that was in MoS in Superman/Batman and act as if no one died then I will upset.  Obviously people died and it should be brought up in the next movie, at least in the Universe they have built it is too "cartoony" to do that level of destruction and play it off like everyone got away fine.

When translating comics to movies you have to adept the source material, which they did in places of MoS - but they failed in other places. They adapted the origins of Superman, and the destruction of Krypton, but they neglected to adept all the fighting. And that's one of my points; they failed to adapt certain crucial points of the story in the transition to a more realistic take of Superman. And you're right about the Avengers Universe being far more cartoony - but they're consistently so. They've managed to build something realistic withing the parameters of their universe, and that's why those movies work so well. As has TDK trilogy; those movies were very consistent, whereas MoS weren't. They tried to go for a more realistic approach but mixed it up with cartoonish violence. That's a pretty bad mix.

And you bring up another worrying point; will this Batman be from TDK Universe? Because that universe does NOT mix well with the one established in MoS. Realism vs Realistic Cartoons sort of... So they either have to come up with a brand new Batman, ignoring the WHOLE of TDK, and that means a new back ground story and introduction, which means it'll be more of a Batman movie than anything else... All I see is impending failure.
