Best and worse in each respected generation (from Gen3 onwards).
NES - best. Simple, iconic design and high quality. Also had the best D-pad design. SNES - best. Same as above. More rounder edges, better ergonomics and adds 2 face buttons - making it 4 by default. Which became the the standard design for controllers. N64 - worst. I don't have three hands. Sorry. GC - worst. Great design, ruined by the weird face buttons placement. Didn't really like the bumper triggers either. Wii - (Wiimote) - subjective. I generally dislike motion controllers so I'm going to pass on this one. (Pro controller) - arguably the best. Wii U - not tried the controller/s but the Gamepad bulky design doesn't lend itself to look like it'll be comfortable to play on on longer sessions. Ergonomics also doesn't look so hot. (Pro controller) - Again, not tried it.. but the pad looks like a great design overall.

The Gamepad is suprisingly comfortable. Didn't believe it either before I used it. The Pro controller is shaped like a Xbox360 controller, which many regard as the most ergonomic controller last Gen. Nintendo dun good with both WiiU controllers.
