They definitely are smaller, though they are private so who knows what they do have onhand (probably not enough).
Hmm, I sorta like the idea of Tecmo Koei. They have been great with Gust (letting Gust make their games, their way). Hell, even Bamco has been halfway decent lately with Tales (early this gen I really thought Bamco just plain hated the idea of making money) |
Namco Bandai already have the Tales series (which actually may be close to surpassing SMT in terms of popularity with the modern Japanese audience). It isn't likely even for the SMT franchise that they would bother trying to absorb the whole of Atlus to get it. Although of all the Japanese publishers they probably would be perfect since they have been the most diverse in their releases and have the cash flow thanks to the Bandai connection to do almost anything they want.
Don't know how Tecmo Koei's financial situation is but I personally don't think they would be that stable. I mean they don't even seem to be able to keep any of their non-Dynasty Warriors based franchises in good standing these days what would they do with SMT to strengthen it or one of its spinoffs.

nintendo doesn't own any of those developers, and fire emblem is nowhere near as dark or "EMO" as persona or smt. |
Fixed that for you, since besides the setting you can't really say a game franchise that has featured stories involving child murders, rape, heavily incest and god killing as far back as during its SNES games in 90s can't be called edgy. It is more traditional in terms of usually being fantasy, war and sometimes medieval political themes while SMT deals with post apocalyptic, philosophical and moral themes and Persona deal with modern settings, psychological and mysteries.
