Hell yes.
I loved Nintendo's old sports games in the past because they had a bit of a arcade feel but were still close enough to reality to not be super power throw fests. Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside, the Ken Griffey MLB games, 1080 Snowboarding, Wave Race and the N64 Excitebike were all great games at the time.
Easily one of Nintendo's biggest mistakes with the Wii was moving away from these types of games. Sure I get leaving some stuff for Wii Sports but to leave all of their non Mario sports franchises in limbo on a console that would have been perfect for the Wii motion controls... wasteful.
I know they can't produce American football or a legit soccer game with the real teams, but Nintendo OWNS a freaking MLB team for Pete's sake, they should be able to release their own MLB game and with the Gamepad and the Wii remote plus imagine the fun local multiplayer you might be able to have UNIQUE to the Wii U. If Nintendo is so driven to reuse Wii accessories, how about the balance board being used for 1080 Snowboarding or even a combo of the balance board and Wii remote for Wave Race?
A NBA game would also work if only to show how well it could be done on the console but really there are a bunch of different types of games that Nintendo can do to make up for the lack of support they are receiving from 3rd parties. I think like they did during the N64 era, they should do so rather then leave their console library looking thin outside of the standard Nintendo money makers giving the media and 3rd parties more "evidence" not to bother supporting the system.
