In the Crew demo you see a guy doing a mission by himself then when he can't do it he gets some friends to help him...there's no reason why I can't play that mission offline.

Pretty sure its still an online experience. Notice they hop into his game automatically as do others.

These two games are designed 100% as online multiplayer games where you can also initiate THAT game alone with bots. But its still open online for others to join.
