My only theory is that people were expecting something "realistic" and "gritty" like The Dark Knight trilogy. Which is an insane thing to expect from a Superman movie.
And by the way, the pacing of the TDK trilogy is pretty similar to Man of Steel, imo. ESPECIALLY The Dark Knight Rises. I honestly have no idea what's up with these "pacing problems" complaints.
