exactly this. Thanks for saving me the time of writing it out.
What's really funny is that Nintendo didn't become the shooterbox, even though, imo, goldeneye was the far better fps. So maybe it's both the combination of controller AND quality fps title. Nintendo's next console was gamecube, which was a very bad controller in terms of shooters.
