Thats some freaky stuff, I had one of those weird light encounters too, the night of prom we were driving to a friends house and we crossed an old bridge I looked back (I wasn't driving mind you) and there was a orange colored light looking like a flame in the middle of the bridge hanging in the air, nothing around to make a spark, it was kinda crazy.
Also to your Civil War thing about the town being burned its funny my town is historically known for being in the line of Shermans March and being the only town not burned down.
