Honestly, I had no problem with the gameplay then, nor last time I've played it, which was couple of years ago. I'm guessing at the time I was already well familiar with that approach to platforming (Prince of Persia, Another World), so Flashback didn't seem really strange either.
When I look at it from this perspective, it was one of those great games that were important precursors to 3D action-adventure games that came after them. They are saying it won't be just classic HD upscale remake, but lot of gameplay will be changed too - hope they make it as good as original was back in the day.
