The biggest issue with "listening to your fan base" is that few people actually know what they want, are qualified to judge what others want, and may not even be fans of the product to begin with so what they are asking for is usually something they wont even support.
I always point to other M as proof that most of the people crying for change in their franchises wont even support if those changes are made.
I cannot speak for people on this site but before Other M on other sites I constantly saw the same people saying Nintendo needed to advance its franchises and then when Other M came out and was changed, the very same ones calling for changed, used those changes as reasons why the game sucked and Nintendo had lost it.
To some people out there it doesn't matter what they do as a company, its always the wrong move.
Is Bayonetta 2 a good thing? I don't recall Nintendo fans asking for that one but we got it.
I would never have gone with a 2 screen console but now that I see the benefits of it I am sold. Gamers weren't asking for that one either.
I did however get to play Last Story and Pandoras Tower thanks to Nintendo listening to enough fans.
Granted they do need to listen or at least learn from other companies more. They really should have known that the jump to HD was going to require more man power if they had been paying attention to all the companies that stated it last gen.
