Its well known Sony has some of the greatest exclusives, but some of my favorite exclusives on the PS3 come from Japan. Since the 360 is basically dead in Japan Sony is basically getting a bunch of free exclusives because the developers have no reason to port the game over to the 360. I'm not talking about games developed in Japan that are focused on Western gamers, like MGS, I'm talking about real Japanese games like Tales of Xillia and Ni No Kuni. A huge portion of the PS3's exclusives don't actually come from first party studios, they come from Japanese developers where basically the PS3 is the only option for them. So if Microsoft fails in Japan again with the X1 then Sony will once again get a bunch of free exclusives for the PS4, when Japanese developers stop developing for the PS3 and move on to the PS4, for doing nothing. Just wanted to get this out, so what do you guys think?

By doing nothing, you mean building up that base and actively working with 3rd party publishers and developers with tons of support and help throughout their development process? Oh, yeah. They do nothing.

Like what, how do they help JRPG developers with development. What do you mean by building up that base...what base?

That base refers to the userbase or fanbase.
And helping developers with development, I mean that. Whether it be open information sharing across studios, assisting in the development of the game itself (as such with Demon's Souls and Folklore), or giving financials breaks/backing and publishing help. It's well known that Sony keeps up a good relation with their 3rd party developers, whereas Nintendo is spotty about that (ex. Story where Bethesda (iirc) said they weren't making any games for Wii or Wii U because Nintendo never contacted them ever at any point)
