It doesn't prove anything, really. 22k is still really low and its unlikely to maintain even that level of sales. The game itself is also unlikely to have legs as it isn't a very popular IP and the install base is too low to support it.

We've seen it with Vita. It gets a semi-big game once in a while and it gets a nice boost only to drop back down to "normal" a few weeks later. What's the next biggest Wii U release that can actually make any sort of difference?

There are a bunch of games coming out starting in august for NA, idk about Japan, but if one niche game can increase sales by 250% in only 2 days.  Imagine what the ridiculous lineup this fall and winter will do.

Why do you people keep saying this "2 days" thing? Don't all new game releases only get 2 days?

Anyway Pikmin isn't exactly "niche". It's being made by Miyamoto isn't it? That alone should speak for the quality of the game. Do I even need to mention  the heavy promotion of this game over the past year? This is the Nintendo's first major 1st party effort for Wii U.

Niche != Quality

The first two Pikmin games sold ~1Mil WW each IIRC, Pikmin 3 IS a niche game.
