Well you have to take into consideration that Nintendo is already selling the Wii U at a loss, so if they were to cut the price then they would be in a unprecarious position where they would have to hope that if someone bought a Wii U that they buy a lot of games for it, if some casuals pick it up and say only buy a couple games then Nintendo is losing money.  With the 3DS they could afford to cut the price and still sell it and break even.  So the thing is they have to put out must own game after game to make sure people buy enough games so they don't make a loss on the consoles bought.  Hope that makes sense :).

I'm pretty sure Nintendo lost on the 3DS after the price cut. They only recovered from it last year, if memory serves correctly.

The point I was making was that if Nintendo (or any gaming company) slash the price and throw in games, their console will sell.
