Yup. A good price and big games sell a console, and Nintendo has strong brand value. Will it work at the same level as 3DS? No way. Nintendo dominates the handheld space, where it's only one of 3 major players on home consoles. But cutting price and releasing games will definitely make people buy Wii U.
Also, 3DLand and 3DWorld are not cheap ports. They are similar in graphical design and effort to the Galaxy games. They don't look as cool because of the setting, and they are less innovative in gameplay, however they are far more accessible. With the locked camera and tighter gameplay they are a 3D Mario that can appeal to people that struggle with 3D perspectives. That's why 3D Land has sold so well.
