The Pre-Columbian north American population had been reduced by about 90% by western diseases before they even had contact with colonists. Also horses were introduced in the Americas by the Europeans.
The Culture of the nomadic native tribes were established after 1500.
Therefore one could argue it was basically two cultures claiming the land for themselves during the same period of time.
