If Trayvan had gone to the car pulled out Zimmerman and tried to fight, I would agree with you. But Zimmerman didnt want him to get away, he looked for him, confronted him and probably tried to hold him for the cops. But, Trayvan fought back, hit him and knocked him down, once down Zimmerman panicked, took out the gun and shot him. |
There is no "probably" about it. You're making a pretty big assumption there and could easily be wrong.
Let's assume that Zimmerman was lying about getting an address because his neighborhood was pretty small and he should have known exactly where he was. So he's still looking for Martin, but Martin could have slipped him and taken a vantage point where he could see Zimmerman but Zimmerman couldn't see him. Then when Martin saw that the guy was shorter and fatter than he was and was out of shape (Zimmerman was out of breath on the phone), he could have decided, fuck it, he'll mess this guy up. And he jumps out as Zimmerman said and asks, "You got a problem?" Zimmerman is surprised and says no, he doesn't have a problem. "You do now." Bam, Martin hits him.
Now that may or may not be what happened, but it's certainly plausible. The jury couldn't rule that out beyond a reasonable doubt because it is consistent with a lot of the evidence at hand.
