It all comes down to reasonable doubt and there was truly that. Does it make sense for Martin to decide to beat up/kill Zimmerman without bothering to set aside his candy and drink? Does it make sense for the screams to stop as soon as the trigger was pulled and not another whimpers be made?
Either way, the reasonable doubt was there. Just hope that YOU are never considered suspicious looking.
