It depends on the tradition. Some have good effects while others have bad effects. I tend to keep the positives and mitigate (or get rid of entirely) the bad ones. In some cases I subvert tradition in favor of transition - other cases I do not. Some things have to be preserved. I believe in preservation (for positives) and that is becoming increasingly difficult in our highly globalized world. Practices and norms that were once local are now on the wane, and people are adopting things they see from larger more influential cultures. It saddens me when I go to a cultural concert in the Caribbean or Latin America and they sing American rock songs or provide hamburgers and hot dogs instead of their indigenous food and local music (note I said cultural shows which are supposed to reflect things of the culture). It's a serious problem for some countries like France which have quotas of cultural items in order to prevent dilution. They are concerned about their identity. I don't blame them.
