First Bioshock is one of best environmental storytelling games in last 15 years, which is order of magnitude harder to make properly than usual cinematic approach. Honestly, considering how much that game improved old, worn-out FPS genre, I would consider it much more important than anything else that came since, even though, subjectively, there are games I enjoyed more. |
The Last of Us does environmental storytelling as much as Bioshock, but it also couples it with traditional cut-scenes. I enjoyed Bioshock Infinite quite a lot, but its characters aren't nearly as well fleshed out as the ones in TLoU. Story is good overall, but most of what is important in it happens during the last few hours.
The rest isn't nearly as engaging emotionally as what you find during the whole of TLoU.
