His comments only made me think just how behind Japanese developers are if one of the most influential ones can't begin to match the scale of GTA5

It's impossible to make a game with perfect mechanics, controls, huge scale, and open world diversity all together. GTAV probably wouldn't come even close even to PS2's MGS3 in terms of combat and stealth mechanics, nor would it feel as "weighty" and real. because it focuses on being open world, it sacrifices a lot just for that purpose.

The best japanese game with a great sense of scale has to be Shadow of the Colossus, but then again it's virtually an "empty game"

Edit: Not meant to criticize Shadow of The Colossus, there is just not much going on in this beautiful landscape and this is partially what makes it what it is. The most unique and artistic game of all time.

Any talanted developer can do great mechanics, but the comment was clearly in reference to the sheer scale of it all.

GTAV's shooting and controls feel like 2 or 3 gens behind MGSV LOL. Kojima is a perfectionist. He wants to merge both worlds together, open world and perfect mechanics. I wouldn't expect him to match GTAV's open world depth unless he sacrifices the controls and weight of the game, not to mention graphics. Which are some things he would never do as his games will lose their identity and fanbase.

I hope he settles down pretty quick and work towards getting MGSV released as soon as possible. I also hope it doesn't go down the way of Metal Gear Rising where he ran out of ideas and had to hand it to Platinum Games, who managed a fairly decent job.
