And widening horizons by making exclusives, dividing and separating the fanbase...yeah right, that's the way to go, lol. There are numerous interviews with Price, in which he praises going multiplatform, maintaining their own IP, etc. Now he is once again tying himself to a single platform. I don't know whether you have played any of Insomniac's games, but if you did, you probably found out that they have their specific traits (that they mostly dropped with Fuse) like wacky weapons, humorous characters, boss fights and so on that they include in their games. Sunset Overdrive feels very much Insomniac, a bit what Overstrike was before they changed it to Fuse, less serious, less generic, less military, a bit crazy. Insomniac fanbase on PS would certainly feel familiar towards the game, and it should get good reception. But of course it's better they are crossing the line at the start of the gen, when people can make new choices than a few years down the road. |
thing is, if they had the idea of sunset overdrive but only microsoft accepted to publish it, then it has to be exclusive. who knows if they also asked activision, ubisoft and so on but they didn't like the risk to invest in such a project? that's how i see it, not how people who seem to hate them now see it. i think they would also release the game for ps4 but that's obviously not possible if only microsoft liked the idea enough to invest in the development and the needed marketing.
what would be the alternative? not working on the title at all and trying to find an idea for a game a multiplatform publisher will release so that everyone is happy? pretty hard to do that...
maybe i'm wrong and the game was microsoft's idea...
