It's more of a dungeon crawler but still has a focus on story and characters. Also almost all the games in the series are unconnected so you can just play this one first if you want.

By focus on story or characters, do you mean Xenoblade quality or more like zelda type story (Typical and just good enough but you mostly play due to the gameplay)?
