- Drugs and alchool are also a norm, not a exception.

- Ilitteracy is the norm and inteligence is forbidden.

Interesting ... You mentioned that and City of God came to my mind.

Well I'm not one to generalize, but it seems like those traits are common in other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. I have lived in both English and Spanish speaking countries, and both have those issues (some more than others). I always thought Brazil would be a bright spot.
