Are people just being too hard on the wii u?(spec and sales wise)

The titles you listed seem good, but not really heavy hitters. I think they should've had a Mario kart or smash to go along with the wii u too.

They may not be heavy hitters, but they're infinitely better than nothing, which is what we got.
