The way the console is as of right now you need kinect to be connected to the X1 or it won't work, it will just be a paper weight.

I'm sure this will be changed at some point either pre or post-launch with a simple firmware update.  If they can remove the 24 hour online thing and the no "used" games DRM, then they can make it so that Kinect isn't required for the console to function (i.e. play games that don't require it).
