I don't know why they don't just get the same guy(s) that did the original 'Wii would like to play' ads for the Wii to do a similar sort of thing for the Wii U. It's not fucking rocket science. Just have them knocking on the door when someone's missus is watching a shite reality telly program and have them saying 'Would U like to play..?'. Then show the guy playing whilst his missus is using the telly, have his missus noticing and then show her turning the reality bollocks off and then show them both playing asymmetrically together.

Have a series of these ads showing different couples and different games on display. Job done.

It really isn't fucking complicated lol.

Sadly, I am pretty sure that at the peak of the Wii's success, some point around the 2009 and 2010, several changes occured in the Nintendo executive structure, including the lose of Cammie Dunaway their top sales and marketing executive at the time. One would think, that the company should have bounced back but it seems whoever they got as replacements have been inept because as many have seen they have not recovered any of the "Nintendo Magic" they displayed from that time. When the best marketing you have had in years comes from Nintendo Direct videos, then you know your marketing department is in the crapper.

As for the failure to market Wonderful 101, who really didn't see that coming? Especially with Pikmin 3 right behind it, Nintendo would obivously short change the externally developed quirky Japanese tinged superhero game rather then the one internally developed with cute critters and a name similar to Pokemon. They will give it a bit of a push but just like many of their other less successful games, they aren't going to give it the same push they give a Mario spin off or anything like that.
