Third Party games only matter if they sell hardware, and not many third party games do that. A first party games job is to move hardware to provide an ecosystem for the thirds to hitch onto and hopefully thrive.

Third Party games monopolizing spots on Sony and M$'s 'lists' isn't a particularly good thing for them (Sony/M$). Because thirds are not loyal in the least. Sony learned the hard way this past gen how loyal thirds can be. And if any other corporate conglomerate with deep pockets decides to enter console gaming thirds would latch on to them as well.

Sony's first party was forced to improve because thirds went multiplatform for survival.

Reliance on third parties for support is dangerous.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
