I think a lot of the same things could be said of a lot of AAA games. I don't necessarily see a trend of big-budget games from major publishers being of consistently higher or lesser quality than low-budget indie titles.
Take a look at Armikrog. There aren't any AAA games coming that are anything like that. There are a lot of interesting things coming out of the indie scene, and for budget prices. By comparison the AAA industry keeps churning out dozens of yearly releases for $60 apiece before DLC is accounted for. Maybe it's harder to sift through the indie games to find the gems, but you'll certainly save a lot of money if you're willing to try.
