Super Mario Sunshine was the worst for me, too (I didn't even bother to finish it). Messing around in Delfino Plaza was far more enjoyable for me than actually making progress, and I'm not sure if I should praise or criticize the game for that. Other 3D Mario games always made me want to jump straight into the next level, because the meat tasted better than the bun. Good game regardless.

I have always said that I would have liked it better if it hadn't been a Mario game. If it had been some new IP, starring a different character, with otherwise the exact same setup (minus Bowser and any other Mario charcters), it honestly would be a neat "clean up this mess" game. Hell, it could have even starred Stanley the Bugman from Donkey Kong III for all I care. But as a "Mario" title, it just wasn't what I wanted. It didn't feel "Mario". But yes, on it's own, not a "Mario title", it was still a solid game.

Even if you put a Snickers wrapper over a 3 Musketeers, it will still be a 3 Musketeers. Just throwing that out there!
