It really is a balancing act. I do agree that Japanese publishers need to branch out more and be more accepting of new ideas (like adopting western tech as mentioned in the article), but they also do way better budgeting for their games. It'd also be nice if they didn't maintain such an archaic mindset about releasing their games in the West.
