280w wouldn't be surprising on a pre-built. (Is that the 12v rail or the entire PSU?)

Go grab youself a decent Corsair HX/AX, they have a 7 year warranty and it will easily outlive the machine and end up in the next, they cost a bit initially, but IMHO the PSU is something you don't ever skimp on.
