If you are into notebooks, I have one of these and it seems like a good start point for you:

It can play many games on good configs (runs GTA IV on a good 30 FPS average - give or take - on 720p and also the last Max Payne in 900p with ease). I am playing Darksiders 1 on it now on 1080p and almost 50 FPS average. The dual Video Cards thing can be a bit tricky for beginners tough, but it is good value for money in my opinion.
