I was/am disappointed because the epic 3D Mario in my head, which has NOTHING to do with space or water packs, is something so awesome it might just never get made. A 3D Mario 3 type game, of epic proportions and huge lands/levels to explore. Who knows if Nintendo will ever make a Mario game like that.
But to be fair, I was disappointed based on what I dreamed of, not because of what Nintendo presented. What they presented looks like a very cool, very fun Mario game that I will more than likely get, and enjoy. Is it "unambitious"? Sure. You could argue that. But will it be a lot of fun? More than likely.
I think people are making too big a deal out of the whole issue really. There's nothing stopping Nintendo from making a truly "epic" 3D Mario a few years down the road for Wii U. So for now, maybe people should just chill and enjoy what they ARE making. Or go play something else.
