Biggest way to make money is to go to island and catch beetles at night (beetles on palm trees and reg trees). Take them back and sell them (if you try to sell them on island you won't get much). So put them in the basket and go back to mainland and sell them at re-tail or nooklings. You first have to have the island open up but it should open up for your town within the first week or so. Next best way to make money is through fishing. Fishing at night in ocean(catching sharks, red snappers and barred knifejaw makes a lot of money) and fishing the ocean during day for red snappers and barred knifejaws.
